NUTRITION

The food we eat has changed a lot in the last 100 years, especially in the last 40 years. Much of our diet comes from the same few crops, predominantly wheat, corn, rice, and soy. Often these crops are eaten in processed foods with added sugar and unhealthy oils. Our meat from factory farms is unethical and unsustainable, and contains antibiotics and hormones. Our plants are genetically modified and covered in chemicals. This is the typical Western diet, and these foods are inflammatory and fuel disease. To many people this way of eating may seem normal, however, it is a new phenomenon in the history of humanity and it is dangerous to our health and our planet, and, sadly, is carefully designed this way by our current food system.

FOR THOSE WHO ARE AWARE, THERE IS A HEALTHY AND SUSTAINABLE WAY TO EAT.

IT LOOKS LIKE THIS:

  • Organic fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and legumes

  • Sustainable meat from regenerative farms raised on grass (and not force fed grains in feed lots)

  • Low mercury and high omega-3 fish, such as wild salmon, and to lesser degree, tuna, swordfish, and halibut

  • Low glycemic grains like black or wild rice, quinoa, teff, buckwheat, and amaranth that are less inflammatory

  • Purified water to remove contaminations, and ideally alkaline water, which has additional health benefits

  • 50 percent of our plate containing fresh organic fruits and vegetables, and the rest sustainable protein, nuts, seeds, legumes, and occasionally healthy grains

  • Avoidance of: wheat, corn, soy, dairy, sugar, processed foods, fried foods, vegetable and seed oils, junk food, and soda

The challenge is that most of the foods available to us are toxic and inflammatory, but most people are entirely unaware of this or simply don’t care. This is intentionally created by the food companies that produce these toxic foods, market them heavily, and lobby governments to allow this corruption with their policies and programs. These food companies also lobby our health organizations to provide us with inaccurate dietary advice for profit. In the last 40 years, this has become a global phenomenon, causing shocking increases in chronic disease and mental illness directly related to our toxic food products, as well as profound environmental destruction and climate change due to industrialized farming. The first step is becoming aware of the problem, the next is choosing wisely, and, beyond that, can involve educating others and advocating for positive change. The choice is yours.
